Colette Jacket

A fitted jacket in matte black velvet, made to hold the body close. The sleeves rise into a sculpted puff at the shoulder and narrow toward the wrist. It closes off centre, left over right, on frog fastenings, so the front runs on a slight diagonal.

The velvet takes the light softly, never shine. Wear it with the Velvet Pencil Skirt or the Velvet Barrel Pants.

About the closures
The knotted frog fastenings on the Colette are pankou. Knotted cord closures like these can be traced back to China's Song dynasty (960 to 1279), and over the centuries they became one of the defining details of Chinese dress, from Qing dynasty robes to the qipao. It is a craft still practised by hand today. We paired them with matte black velvet and a sculpted puff sleeve, closing on a diagonal. The detail is not ours to claim, and we are grateful to the craft and the heritage it comes from.
